To start off 2021 after the craziest year I have ever experienced the Austin Proper Hotel looked like the perfect place to relax and go into the new year with no worries! My bestfriend, Jade (@jadebeerman), and I decided this place was nothing less than heaven. First, we walked in the grand black double doors surrounded by natural wood that gives it a look of glowing gold. Then once we went through the golden gates into heaven on earth, we noticed all the wood detail from the stairs to the furniture they decorated with. Then, a little past the stairs was the most beautiful lounge area and bar. Keeping the wood theme with bursts of bright and bold colors. It was the perfect combination of luxury and comfort that made us feel right at home. I will say part of what made this place so amazing was it being better then what the pictures were online… and the pictures were already pretty amazing.
Now the room… oh the room. We decided on the Premier King Balcony and I’m just gonna have to walk you though this one. When we first walked in we saw a combination of the wood floors and concrete accent wall. The designer in me loves this contrast so I was already excited from this simple design detail. Then we went into the bathroom that was actually a very simple bathroom layout but from the color of tile used and small details in décor it was upscale. It’s the little things like making the decision to do the wood bump-out mirror instead of just mounting mirrors on the wall that make these places luxury. Then, from the bathroom to the bedroom there was a monster of a king sized bed. It was a cloud. Somehow, the designers of the Austin Proper Hotel figured out how to snatch a cloud from the sky and make it into bed form. The corner wall of windows going to the balcony made us feel like we were floating in the sky with the most beautiful street and water view. I think one of the best parts of this rooms for Jade and I was waking up and raising the giant electric shades at just a press of a button to see this view first thing in the morning while laying in our cloud.
Lastly but very important, the food!!!! We decided to start our evening off on New Years Eve with drinks and snack food at La Piscina (@lapiscinaaustin). Its a little restaurant/ bar one the fifth floor of the hotel along with the pool. I’d say it’s a combination between Mexican and Mediterranean food. First they brought us out two different salsas with chips. Any Texan’s mouth should be watering from hearing TWO salsas. The red was spicy and more of a typical salsa but the green was unexpected. For some reason, we had in our brain that green salsa is always wayyyyy spicier than regular. This was not; it actually was more of a lime and sweet but somehow still savory flavor. Then, we both got margaritas on the rocks (we love our tequila). If it tells you anything about the difference in Jade and I’s personalities, I got the salt rim and Jade got hers with sugar. No matter what rim you deiced on the margarita always tasted fresh and dangerously addictive. Then we decided on chips and queso.. shocker I know! We added chorizo verde to our queso and it was probably one of the better decisions we’ve made in our lives. This queso was 10 levels above any other queso we’ve ever had. It had more of a fondue thing about it and the combination of spices and chorizo gave a burst of flavor with one little bite. The décor, just like everywhere else, was beautiful.
Going downstairs to the bottom floor we decided the next morning to grab a bite at The Peacock (@thepeacockaustin). We decided to go al a carte with a butter croissant, poached egg, and bacon and made our own little sandwich situation. The menu featured some very out of the box breakfast items that I look forward to trying in the future! I cant even imagine what dinner looks like in this place!
This is one of the only places I’ve ever stayed that I didn’t feel like crawling into my own by the end. It made us feel like we were at home away from home! If you are looking for a girls weekend, get away with a loved one, or even a solo vacation for yourself I’d say this is a go to. You wouldn’t even have to leave the hotel to enjoy yourself. There are so many other amenities that we didn’t have time to expierence.
